Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Student Advisory Council
The DEI Student Advisory Council was envisioned with the help of Students Against Racism. The need for an advisory council was part of the list of demands presented to the university administration by Students Against Racism on October 30th 2019. From the Iowa State Daily on November 20th, 2019:
“After a series of incidents including racially motivated vandalism and threats to protesters, there has been consistent talks of racial issues on campus. The name of one particular student group keeps coming up: Students Against Racism.
Students Against Racism is not an official Iowa State student organization. Rather, they are a group of individuals with a goal to reduce incidents of discrimination at Iowa State.”
The Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Office of Equal Opportunity are committed to promoting a learning and working environment free from discrimination and harassment. Your perspective as a student is welcome and necessary as we work toward building a campus climate that is supportive of equity and inclusion through education, outreach, facilitation, and engagement.
The purpose of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Student Advisory Council is to:
A. Provide a student voice and perspective about diversity, equity, and inclusion issues on campus
B. Provide feedback, suggestions, and ideas for campus education, training, programming, and outreach related to diversity, equity, and inclusion
C. Invite the campus community to consider their role in reporting discrimination and harassment on campus
All Iowa State University students are welcome to apply. Applications will be reviewed by a selection committee comprised of students and OEO/VPDI office staff. Video interviews will be scheduled with all applicants who submit a complete online application. Interviews will be conducted in October. Applicants selected to serve in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Student Advisory Council for Fall 2020 - Spring 2021 will be notified in October/November.
Thank you for your interest in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Student Advisory Council. For guaranteed consideration, we encourage you to apply by September 30, 2020. Applications will be reviewed by students and VPDI and OEO staff.
