nicci port (she | her | hers) serves as Project Director for Diversity & Inclusion and Gender & Sexual Diversity Initiatives.

For the Division of Diversity and Inclusion, nicci serves as point for the Inclusive Action CommissionFaculty and Staff Associations, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Advancing One Community Awards and directs projects such as the Inclusion Initiatives Grant ProgramUniversity Award for Inclusive Excellence, and Inclusion@IowaState.  She is the division's primary contact for matters that are important to the LGBTQ+ community and is the touchpoint for community members wanting to engage in work around topics of gender and sexual diversity (GSD).

GSD initiatives nicci is currently advancing are inclusive restrooms/facilities at ISU, trans-inclusive healthcare in the city of Ames, connections to and between LGBTQ-affirming groups on campus, relationships with city government and non-profit agencies in the area, and outreach to/committee service for efforts that center the experiences of the LGBTQ+ community.  Next on her list are the creation of Pride Summit Ames, a university committee on LGBTQ+/GSD matters, and continued work with anyone interested in the mantra:

nicci joined the Division of Diversity and Inclusion after 15 years at Iowa State and is known as a creative and connective problem-solver who brings people together to address matters that are important to the Iowa State community. Prior to her current role, nicci was active in inclusion initiatives through founding, chairing, and/or advising numerous LGBTQ-affirming groups, co-founding ISU’s Faculty and Staff Association Council, and organizing the participation of underrepresented faculty, staff and students in campus-wide initiatives such as ISU’s reaccreditation process, the selection of ISU’s first Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion, and the authoring of our university’s 2017-22 strategic plan.

nicci earned her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from the University of Northern Iowa and attended Minnesota State University, Mankato, where she studied Counseling and Student Personnel - College Student Affairs. She is a native of Iowa and is a fan of cycling, movies, live music, and Iowa State athletics.
